Inkwell Daily

Privacy policy

Effective 12 October 2026
In short: Inkwell Daily needs a free account. We store only what's needed to keep your library, reading history and settings the same on every phone, plus anonymous crash reports so we can fix bugs. We never sell or share your data, show ads or track you, and you can delete everything at any time.

Your account

To use Inkwell Daily you sign in with your Google account, or with an email address and password. Accounts are provided by Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore), which stores and processes this data on our behalf. For your account we store:

We use this data only to run the app: to keep your library, streak, statistics and settings the same on every device you sign in on. It is not used for advertising, not sold, and not shared with anyone else. Passwords are handled by Firebase and are never visible to us.

Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Each account can be read and changed only by its owner. We keep it until you delete your account.

A copy of your library and settings is also kept on your phone so the app works offline. Signing out leaves that copy on the phone; uninstalling the app removes it.

Deleting your account and data

In the app, open Settings → Profile & account → Delete account. This permanently deletes your account and everything stored in it. You can also ask us to delete it: see how to delete your account.

Crash reports

If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report to Google Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix it. A report contains technical details only: the error, the app version, the device model and operating system version, and an installation identifier created by Firebase. It is not linked to your account and does not contain your name, email address, what you read or anything you type. Reports are kept for up to 90 days.

Downloading editorials

To show new editorials, the app (and its home-screen widget) downloads them from the Inkwell Daily feed, hosted on Cloudflare. These requests contain no personal information, account or device identifier. As with any website, Cloudflare may briefly record technical details such as your IP address in order to deliver and protect the service. We do not use this information to identify you.

Listening

"Listen" reads editorials aloud with your phone's own text-to-speech voice. We do not record or receive any audio.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily digest or the evening reminder, the notifications are scheduled on your phone. Your notification settings are never uploaded, and no information about when or how you read is sent anywhere for them.

Photos

Photo library access is used only when you choose a profile picture. A small copy is kept in the app and in your account, so it appears on your other devices. The app never accesses your camera or microphone.

Becoming a tester on our website

If you use the "Become a tester" form on inkwelldaily.com, the name, email address, and the optional referral and note you enter (and the country your request came from) are emailed to us so we can invite you to test the app. We use them only for that, never for marketing, and delete them on request.

What we do not do

Children

Inkwell Daily is a news-commentary app for a general adult audience and is not directed at children.
